Live Bar, December 28th recently, Yao Ming, chairman of China Basketball Association, accepted an exclusive interview with Yu Jia, the host of Central Radio and Television.
When talking about what were the regrets in the past five years, Yao Ming said: “The national team is simple, which may also be related to my past experience. Because it turned out to be a member of the national team, and the team abroad was also a member of the team. Many things seemed very simple, but in fact, they found it very different when they really started the operation. After the end of the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2021, we began to build the national team Construction Committee at the end of the year. The first step is to summarize the gains and losses of the entire Tokyo Olympic Games cycle men’s basketball and women’s basketball. At that time, some coaches took part in it, whether in office or leaving. We conclude that it is not the problem of coaches, but how to help coaches improve their performance in our support system.”
Speaking of the supporting system, Yao Ming explained, “what kind of evaluation system is and what kind of system supports coach command and training is the responsibility of the Chinese Basketball Association. This cannot simply put the responsibility on a coach, which is unfair. The coach is responsible for training and directing the competition in the field, but he needs a huge system to support him outside the field. Including intelligence system and data system of team members. Why do we propose the ‘124 ‘plan? The ‘1’ in it means that everything must be supported by data. Including the fatigue system of athletes, in the whole Olympic cycle, there are some athletes injured accidentally. If we can have better tests on his medical treatment, we will give it to coaches, his judgment will be more accurate. We can’t put all the work on the coach. This is the most important achievement we have summed up, and it is also the whole management system of the state construction committee that was formed later. We cannot let coaches become unlimited responsibilities, but we should focus on the presence and training, relatively speaking, concentrate his limited energy on what he is best.”
